Fall means Fox's Fancy Apple Crisp

Fall is probably our favorite time of year at Gatherer's.

We celebrate our 'birthday' in September, and enjoy the apple spice season up until the first snow flake hits the ground. Our favorite fall flavor is Fox's Fancy. It tastes just like an apple pie. Eating it with warm milk or in hot oatmeal is reminiscent of a fresh baked pie right from Mom's oven on Thanksgiving. One of our favorite Fox's Fancy recipes is an Apple Crisp with granola as the topping. Follow the recipe below and enjoy the smells and taste that go along with it. Happy Fall!

Fox’s Fancy® Apple Crisp

Ingredients:
5 tart apples, such as Gala or Mac, cored, peeled, and sliced into ½ inch pieces
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Topping:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups Fox’s Fancy® Granola
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons butter, softened
OPTIONAL: vanilla ice cream

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Grease an 8-inch square pan with shortening on bottom and sides.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine apples, cinnamon, lemon juice and sugar. Toss to combine. Layer sliced apples in the pan.
  4. In another mixing bowl, combine flour, Fox’s Fancy®, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Use fingertips to cut in the butter. Sprinkle granola mixture over the apples
  5. Bake about 60 minutes or until the granola topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. If topping is brown before the apples are tender, cover with aluminum foil and bake until apples are ready. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

This dish is also delicious served cold, so have it for breakfast the next day!

An all new Gatherer's site, designed with you in mind.

Today we are proud to launch Gatherer's brand new website. Over the past few years we have received a healthy collection of recommendations from our customers on how to improve our site. We've taken these  ideas to heart and are delighted to introduce you to the substantial changes we have made.

Subscriptions
More than any other feature, subscriptions was the most sought after by our long time customers. Many fans of Gatherer's have been looking for an opportunity receive recurring deliveries of Gatherer's quickly and easily. We are totally behind this idea and want to ensure that it works for the average Gatherer's Granola enthusiast.

We think  you will like subscriptions for a number of reasons:
Buying through a subscription provides real savings over buying bags individually. Savings range from 10 to 20 percent depending on which subscription package you choose.

Packages can be customized so that you get the flavors you want.

Subscriptions always receive free shipping.

Subscriptions can be canceled or modified at any time painlessly.

Subscriptions help us out too:
It helps us get an idea of where are regular customers are geographically. This in turn directs our sales efforts to under served areas and can be used to convince grocery stores to carry our products where we have regular web customers.

Subscriptions help us predict how much granola we will need to have ready for web sales each month, making life easier for our bakery and order fulfillment team.

Bundles
It makes sense to buy more than one bag at a time, especially online. We feel that customers should be rewarded with a discount for choosing a set of bags as opposed to just one. Bundles answer this issue in the same way that we have handled things at farmers markets for years. Buy a group of bags and the price drops accordingly.

Free Shipping
In the past, one of the biggest barriers for customers on our website was shipping costs. We have all come to expect shipping costs to be either rolled into the price of an item or provided for free above a certain threshold amount. This is the age of Amazon Prime, after all.

We wanted to be sure to address this problem with our new site. Beginning today, we are delighted to introduce free shipping on all orders over $35. Get your cart to that amount and shipping is on us. No strings attached.

Blog
Being as you're reading the blog right now, this should be a fairly obvious point of improvement. We've been wanting to have a means of sharing more about Gatherer's with our customers outside of social media for a long while now. This blog will allow us to update you with recipe ideas using Gatherer's granola, announcements of new product concepts and launches, updates on Gatherer's becoming available in new areas, and much more. In short, the blog is a better way to stay up to date on Gatherer's growth and news.
