Fall means Fox's Fancy Apple Crisp

Fall is probably our favorite time of year at Gatherer's.

We celebrate our 'birthday' in September, and enjoy the apple spice season up until the first snow flake hits the ground. Our favorite fall flavor is Fox's Fancy. It tastes just like an apple pie. Eating it with warm milk or in hot oatmeal is reminiscent of a fresh baked pie right from Mom's oven on Thanksgiving. One of our favorite Fox's Fancy recipes is an Apple Crisp with granola as the topping. Follow the recipe below and enjoy the smells and taste that go along with it. Happy Fall!

Fox’s Fancy® Apple Crisp

Ingredients:
5 tart apples, such as Gala or Mac, cored, peeled, and sliced into ½ inch pieces
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Topping:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups Fox’s Fancy® Granola
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons butter, softened
OPTIONAL: vanilla ice cream

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Grease an 8-inch square pan with shortening on bottom and sides.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine apples, cinnamon, lemon juice and sugar. Toss to combine. Layer sliced apples in the pan.
  4. In another mixing bowl, combine flour, Fox’s Fancy®, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Use fingertips to cut in the butter. Sprinkle granola mixture over the apples
  5. Bake about 60 minutes or until the granola topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. If topping is brown before the apples are tender, cover with aluminum foil and bake until apples are ready. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

This dish is also delicious served cold, so have it for breakfast the next day!
